Colin Cannon is an acclaimed guitarist, composer and educator with over 12 years of teaching experience. Based in New York City, Colin has released three critically acclaimed albums of original music and is a performer in some of the world's most famous jazz venues including the Blue Note and the 55 Bar. In addition to his original music career, Colin is among the most sought after guitar, theory and composition instructor in NYC. Of the nearly two thousand guitar teachers working in NYC, Expertise.com ranks Colin Cannon in the top one percent.
Colin is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music and holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees of music.
While originally self taught from an early age, Colin went on to many years of formal training. In High School he attended the world-renowned Eastman School of Music where he was named the “Fred V. Alati Jazz Scholar" and at age 18 was selected by the Berklee College of Music's "World Scholarship Tour." While at Berklee, he studied jazz guitar with instructors such as Tim Miller and the legendary Mick Goodrick (teacher of Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Bill Frisell and more). As a Master’s student, he studied classical composition with composers Suzanne Farrin and Shafer Mahoney.
Colin first began teaching guitar while still in high school as a part time job and continued throughout his college years. Since graduating from Berklee in 2007, Colin has been teaching professionally full time and has helped hundreds of students reach their goals. From the advanced students preparing for auditions at some of the world's most prestigious music schools, to the beginners who just want to play their favorite songs, Colin welcomes students of all levels, styles and interests to his lessons.
In addition to his private practice, Colin is also employed and certified by the national tutoring company "Take Lessons"
