Colin Cannon is an acclaimed guitarist, composer and educator with over 11 years of teaching experience. Based in New York City, Colin has released three critically acclaimed albums of original music and is a frequent performer in some of the world's most famous jazz venues including the Blue Note and the 55 Bar. While originally self taught from an early age, Colin went on to many years of intensive training. During those years he was a student at the world-renowned Eastman School of Music where he was named the “Fred V. Alati Jazz Scholar" and at age 18 was selected by the Berklee College of Music's "World Scholarship Tour". While at Berklee, he studied guitar and composition with instructors such as Tim Miller and the legendary Mick Goodrick (teacher of Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Bill Frisell and more). Colin holds a performance degree from the Berklee College of Music in addition to graduate studies of both classical and contemporary composition from the Hunter College School of Arts & Sciences.
Colin first began teaching guitar while still in high school as a part time job, a job he continued throughout his college years. Since graduating from Berklee in 2007, Colin has been teaching professionally full time and has helped hundreds of students reach their goals. From the advanced students preparing for auditions at some of the world's most prestigious music schools, to the beginners who just want to play their favorite songs, Colin welcomes students of all levels, styles and interests to his lessons.
In addition to his private practice, Colin is also employed and certified by the national tutoring company "Take Lessons"
